Tips for “Modern” searching

Hi, this is YOZO.

Today, I introduce tips for “Modern” searching.

The skill of “search” is getting more important, in order to access as intended in the vast amount of information that is increasing every day.

It’s an essential step in the search for problems, prior research, and competitive research, which are the starting points for idea generation.

Please take a look at this opportunity as one of the search methods.

Although Google Search is evolving enough that “words (space) words” are enough,

by using search operators, you can easily perform more delicate searches.
https://support.google.com/websearch/

Here, I introduce 3 search techniques that I used when I was actually examining the existing ideas for “convenient cooking utensils when cutting ingredients”.

Quickly find search results with images

List search results by image.
Use the OR and operators to search,
Search for “cooking tool (convenient OR easy OR fast) (cutting OR cut) (vegetables OR fruits) -recipe”.
Exclude recipe sites with the operator.

Especially younger generations are searching for travel destinations and clothes they want on Instagram.
That way, the image list display allows you to grasp the results instantly.

I also become seeing the restaurants from their photos.

The following search operators are used for searching.

  • OR Used when arranging words that can be either
  • Used immediately before excluded word

By the way, space is basically equivalent to AND (including both words).

We will add search words to narrow down the categories.

Eventually, it became “ cooking tool (convenient OR easy OR fast) (cutting OR cut) (vegetables OR fruits) -recipe”.

I was able to list the search results as I expected.
There are various useful goods!

Specifying the era by before:(date) after:(date)

Added “after: 2020/1/1” to the previous search word.
Only those updated since January 1, 2020 can be searched.
By combining with before :, you can also search for information of a specific age.

In fact, this operator is a fairly recent feature released in April 2019.
There are no reason to use.

It is useful …

  • When you want to know only the latest products
  • When you want to see the trend of a long time ago

Search primary sources by @(social media)

Search for “food chopper @Twitter”.
You can search for real reviews (primary information) on social media.
I was able to catch the negative side of the food chopper that tends to be buried.

Product reviews are often rated with adaptations due to advertising or other backgrounds.

For example, by searching for “product name @Twitter”
You can search for real reviews and experience of people who use the product.

The live voices of the people are likely to be useful for discovering “troubles” that have not been fully revealed.

How was it?

This time, we introduced search operators that can be quickly implemented from the search box.
In addition, when searching only PDF files for highly reliable public documents, you just type “filetype: pdf blah-blah-blah.
Once you learn it, it is very useful.

If you are new to search operators, try the following search options.

I hope it helps your daily search activities. ٩(╹ω╹ )و
Thank you.
